20th Netherton/Rotary Relays set for Friday

For the 20th year in a row, all of Madera Unified School District’s elementary schools are set to compete in relay races Friday.

The Netherton/Rotary Relays are set to take place in the Lee DaSilva Field at Memorial Stadium, which is at the corner of Olive Avenue and Stadium Road. The relay races will start at 6 p.m. but the gates will open an hour before. A $1 donation is suggested for admission and there will be no outside food or drink permitted, organizers said. Food and drink will be sold at a concession stand.

The track event is organized by Madera Rotary Club and the district. Hundreds of students in kindergarten through sixth grades will represent their schools as they dart over the all-weather track in the relay races.

First, second and third graders run 8 x 50-meter races while fourth, fifth and sixth graders run 4 x 100-meter races. Students are required to wear closed toed shoes, no spikes or cleats and school spirit apparel...
