An attorney who grew up in the Fresno area and has family ties to Italy and Argentina wants to represent California’s 16th district in Congress. Fluent in Spanish and proficient in Italian, Brian Whelan is a third generation farmer who grows wine grapes and pistachios and is a managing partner at Whelan Law Group.
Whelan graduated from Fresno’s San Joaquin Memorial in 2001 with valedictorian honors. He completed his bachelor’s degree in history with honors at the University of California, Berkeley in 2005, and in 2008, graduated from Rutgers with a law degree. He then went into private practice.
In 2011, Whelan became one of the youngest attorneys ever to earn the right to argue cases before the United States Supreme Court.
