Madera attorney Brian Austin’s 2012 campaign for judge is his second run for the Superior Court bench, having run for judge in 2010.
Austin cites his experience as a Judge Pro Tempore, a police officer, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and a college professor to support his claim that he is uniquely prepared to serve as a judge in Madera County.
A native of Firebaugh, Austin joined the Marine Corps in 1976 and served for six years. Subsequent to his military service, Austin joined the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office and later the Madera Police Department.
Austin graduated from Fresno City College and San Joaquin Valley College of Law. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1996...

2012 was actually Mr. Austin's third time running for judge in Madera. He ran in 2008 losing to Ernest LiCalsi who was then DA. The two vied for the soon to be open seat that was held at the time by Judge John DeGroot. Judge DeGroot chose not to run again in 2008 but to finish his full term sending his judicial position to open election as opposed to appointment by the governor.
