Two Fresno men accused of trying to scam tires out of three shops were arrested after the manager of a Madera shop became suspicious and called authorities.
William Moreno, 44, and 39-year-old Eric Schubert were arrested Wednesday when they tried to retrieve $4,000 worth of tires from a shop on Avenue 18 1/2, said Erica Stuart, spokeswoman for the Madera County Sheriff’s Department.
The manager of the tire shop suspected foul play when one of the suspects, claiming to be a foreman of a company that does business with Schoettler Tire, phoned in an order for four Super Single diesel tires, valued at $4,324.02.
