A man convicted of the 2010 execution-style murder in Madera of another man was sentenced Friday to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Christopher Norris, 25, originally of Mariposa, was found guilty in September 2011 by a Madera County Superior Court jury of the first-degree murder of Alonso Herrera, 24, according to Madera County District Attorney Michael Keitz.

The jury further found the special circumstance that Norris committed the murder when he was an active gang member and that Norris’ actions occurred to further the criminal activities of a gang. The jury also found that Norris personally discharged the firearm that caused Herrera’s death.

Because Norris used a firearm in the murder, he was sentenced to an additional and consecutive term of 25 years to life under the “use a gun and you are done” statute...
