2 men to face murder hearing

Two of the three men accused in the 2012 murder of 44-year-old Madera man Gerald Fontes will have a court hearing in Mariposa County Court this week and face 16 years to life in prison.

Patrick Lozano, 29, from Madera and Richard Mirelez, 36, from Merced will go before a judge for a preliminary hearing in Mariposa County Court at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The two were arrested along with Jose Jimenez, 42, from Madera County in July of 2012 on suspicion of Fontes’ murder when his body was discovered by tourists in May of that year.

The discovery marked nearly two months after Fontes, a father of two, was reported missing in Madera County...
