Two motorists were injured when they were involved in a seven-car pileup on State Route 99 Friday evening at about 6 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred in the construction zone of split lanes on the southbound side of the freeway, the CHP said. A pickup driving in the right lane struck another vehicle, resulting in a chain collision of six others. An officer said the initial cause of the crash probably was inattention to driving on the part of the pickup driver.
One of the injured drivers was taken to Madera Community Hospital, where neither her condition nor her name were available. The hospitalized driver, a woman, was believed to be from Madera.
