2 in December SWAT standoff arrested

A Madera man and woman arrested following a SWAT standoff last month were arrested again early Tuesday on drug and burglary charges, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Jason Clark attempted to stop driver Luciano Garcia, 23, and 21-year-old Melinda Silva because the Acura Integra they were in was stolen, sheriff’s spokeswoman Erica Stuart said. After a short chase Garcia crashed the vehicle into a fence near Avenue 16 and Road 29 1/2.

Garcia, Silva, and a 17- year-old boy all fled on foot but were arrested a short time later, Stuart said.

In December, Garcia and Silva surrendered to authorities after a six-hour SWAT standoff outside Silva’s home on Segovia Court in Madera. The department was trying to arrest Garcia, who was wanted in connection with the theft of several firearms from a home near the Madera Ranchos...
