Two residents of Yosemite Lakes Park, a man and a woman, have been arrested in connection with a string of at least 31 suspicious arson fires that threatened homes, exhausted local fire crews and terrorized the rural mountain community.

The motive for the three-month-long rash of fires isn’t known, officials said.

Cal Fire authorities said Kenneth Alan Jackson, 40, and Allison Marie Waterman, 46, both of Yosemite Lakes Park in Coarsegold, were apprehended Tuesday night, charged with arson, and booked into the Madera County Jail. Jackson, who was still in custody Wednesday night, is being charged with 31 counts of arson, resisting arrest, and attempted battery on a peace officer, according to officials. Waterman, who posted $25,000 bail, was booked on a single charge of arson.

Other agencies that assisted in the investigation and arrest include the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, Madera County District Attorney’s Office and the Yosemite Lakes Park security staff...
