140 coats given away to community

While the Holy Family Table heated hearts and stomachs on Christmas Eve, the Optimist Club worked to keep bodies warm long after they exited Griffin Hall.

The club and Century 21 M&M Associates had collected 145 coats this month, and all but five would be handed out Dec. 24 to adults and children by nine club members and 10 young volunteers. Children were also given candy canes.

The Optimist Club is already planning for Christmas 2013, according to member Chuck Genseal.

“The Optimists are always searching for new members to help them help the disadvantaged children of our community,” said Genseal. “If you like putting a smile on a child’s face you too can join this service-minded club.”...
