A local Earth Day celebration drew about 130 people to the Madera Community Garden on Sunday. Earth Day is celebrated worldwide today to show support for environmental protection.
MadLove: A Community Earth Day Celebration included food, art, games, informational tables, raffles and music. It was organized by Madera Community Impact Network, which is a project of the Madera Coalition for Community Justice. MCIN aims to get residents involved in planning by providing input and advocating for the best environmental and economic interests of the county.
The Madera County Transportation Commission was one of five organizations giving out information. Consultant Georgiena Vivian said the commission sought input from the public about popular transportation methods.
“We’re trying to integrate land use transportation to increase walkability and biking. We want to know what improvements to the streets and highways people would like to see in our Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Community Strategy, which should be done in the winter of 2013 and 2014,” she said...
