Parents protest elementary school principal
A crowd of parents yelled and chanted as they hoisted picket signs, sounded a trumpet, and walked back and forth on the sidewalk Thursday in front of Madera Unified School District office on Howard Road, demanding the removal of the principal of La Vina Elementary School.
Signs, inscribed with messages in English and Spanish, included “La Vina principal is a bully,” “The principal has to leave,” “We want respect for our children,” and “Our children are more than test scores.”
Organizers said the Thursday-morning demonstration, which included about 30 people, was the latest in a series of efforts to bring complaints about Principal Patricia Lopez to school officials’ attention.
