Howling from the Heartland: Halloween parade set for tonight
Thursday, October 29, 2009
By James A. Glynn
Be scared. Be very scared. This is the time of the year that you can see turkey buzzards flying overhead. They are an omen that similar scary things are on their way.
Ghouls will come knocking on your door. Zombies will slouch through your neighborhood. Space creatures may bicycle across the sky while phoning home for a supply of Reese's Pieces.
On the other hand, fairy princesses will be glide along sidewalks, magic wands in their tiny hands. But, they may be followed by Vampira, a ghost bride, or the wife of Frankenstein's monster.
These bewildering things always happen on Halloween. This year, the eve of All Hallows (also known as All Saints Day) falls on Saturday. But, in Madera, we like to get an early start on things, specifically tonight.
