Annual 'faire' nears end of season
For several years many locals and valley folk have enjoyed the pageantry, and revelry of the Northern Californian Renaissance Faire at Casa de Fruta.
Every weekend, thousands are entertained, feast on English Renaissance cuisine and gaze at hundreds of costumed villagers, soldiers and noblemen. Last weekend saw several Maderans, including the guests of yours truly (Debbie Samora, Jackie Northup and Vi Emo), visit the Faire at 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. in Hollister.
At the gates of the quaint village of Wellingtown (in England during the reign of Elizabeth I) we were met by the lovely and gracious Lady Hilary of Aquitaine (Hilary Laurie). She would be our hostess and guide throughout the day.
She first introduced us to the excellent explorer, privateer, slaver, and English folk hero, Sir Francis Drake (Will Wood) who immediately expressed his liking for Lady Hilary and "the three damsels from the strange and faraway village of Madera. You are truly a lucky man," said Sir Francis, giving me a wink.
