"Cowboy on up, pardner." The Evening Lions, after years of swaying their hips (that was a sight), at their annual Luau fundraiser, have traded in their hula skirts for cowboy boots and Stetsons for this year's Gone Country Dinner and Dance at Peters Brothers Garden Center. Dinner promises to be some mighty fine "chow."
Remember you're not a real cowboy if you think chow is a smart way to say goodbye, or an expensive breed of dog. There'll be dancing too, and even lessons in line dancing. All the fun runs from 5 until 11 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $35, and if you hear "Yahoo" that night, someone has not connected to the Internet.

Spirits are up. And it has always run high at Madera South. Today, at the football game at Memorial Stadium, is Band Day. As a special guest, Mic Gillette the lead trumpet player for the band Tower of Power for 40 years, will bring added enjoyment to the halftime show.
If you think that's going to be a powerful show, towering above all in the past (okay, I'll stop), check out Nov. 15. Well over a thousand students in nearly 20 bands will be performing for the Heart of California Tournament of Champions. Even the Fresno State Marching Band, 280 members, will put on an exhibition performance for those attending.
