Vanilla is a flavoring that almost every household has in the cupboard or spice cabinet. Sometimes when we are in a hurry or otherwise preoccupied with a recipe we don't give it much thought. Maybe I could be called a recipe nerd, but learning about certain foods, seasonings and spices is interesting to me. Allow me to inflict my weird interests upon my fellow cooks, with these facts (and recipes) that feature vanilla.
The first thing I would like to include here is a brief mention of how vanilla is labeled.
There is "pure" vanilla, which many of us call "real," and there is "imitation." Are you always better off with "pure?" Just depends. FULL STORY...

Then you better find a lot of gas, in an alley (bring siphon hose) or corner Stop & Rob for your journey. Don & Cathi will go to any length (as in miles) for a good deal, but a trip, via the "Loneliest Road in the U.S." (Highway 50) across Nevada to Logan, Utah, for a motorhome? Better ask the wonderful couple.

Although the search for precious metals brought the first pioneers to Madera County, it does not account for the establishment of civilization in the area.
It took more than picks and shovels to provide stability. It was the lumber industry that gave the local economy its first permanent base. In the process, the town of Madera was born, but for a while it was just barely alive.
