Jury convicts Madera man on DUI charge

A Madera County Superior Court jury has convicted a 22-year-old Madera man of driving under the influence of marijuana, according to District Attorney Michael Keitz.

Deputy District Attorney Dina Petrushenko presented evidence that on March 20, 2011, California Highway Patrol Officer Efrain Jimenez heard an engine revving and tires squealing. He found the vehicle the sounds were coming from and saw it jump over a curb.

When Jimenez stopped the driver, Nathan Chavez, his vehicle smelled of marijuana and he failed field sobriety tests, according to reports.

Chavez denied fault for his actions, saying it was because he was “driving a Chevy with a 350 engine.” ...
