Scammers bilk woman out of $500

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office issued a computer scam alert to the Central Valley on Friday, warning the public of a fraudulent company operating out of France, claiming to be associated with Microsoft.

Scammers saying they are with a company called Mercaway.com are calling local residents, claiming to be in association with Microsoft, telling residents that a virus has been detected in their computers.

The caller convinces the consumers that the only way Microsoft can fix the problem is to download new anti-virus software for $499.99.

“This is one of the most blatant acts of credit card fraud,” said Sheriff John Anderson...

I have had numerous calls from those people. They either say they are from Microsoft or Windows. I calld Microsoft after the first call and they said they never call and tell people they have a virus. I have told the caller it is a scam. Even reported to Sheriff's department. They say there is nothing they can do about it.

I almost was a Victim ,since I did not have the Money,for them to help me with my Computer Problem.I was supose to have 1749 Viruses. I just told the Gentleman I I have to shut down my Computer and cancel my Internet.
