A pedestrian was struck and killed by a southbound freight train along Gateway Drive just south of the Cleveland Avenue intersection, according to Madera Police.
Detective Robert Hill said the incident remains under investigation.
“It was about 1:20 in the morning on Sunday. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Sabino Cardenas of Madera. He may have been attempting to cross — to beat the train, when he was struck and killed. The train engineers saw him only briefly, but they were not able to stop the train,” Hill said.
Hill said officers had not determined if the fatality was an ill-timed trespassing attempt to beat the train or possibly an intentional act. Toxicology reports are pending...

Christian Prayer (from Madera Direct)
Kudos to John Seybold for speaking up about the inequitable amount of Christian prayer versus non-Christian prayer at the September 25 MUSD Board Meeting. He is absolutely right about the School Board ignoring the many non-Christian citizens and their children who attend our schools. To quote Mr. Seybold, "...If you are not willing to address the needs of non-Christians by allowing them to pray in your presence, I don't think it is equitable ...to have Christians pray here as well." It's simply not Christian!!
