Enough has been written about our town’s terrific Relay For Life event held this past weekend at Lions Town and Country Park. But is there ever enough said about how a still relatively small community comes together to honor cancer survivors and victims and raise more than $125,000 annually at a fun and friendship-making event?
Kudos to the Parks and Public Works Departments for getting out early with setup; in fact, congrats to Relay chairperson Charlotte Brewer, committee members, team captains and all involved in Madera’s Relay.

After opening the event Saturday morning, what was our dedicated mayor Robert (Rob) Poythress doing early Sunday morning on the south side of the park, jogging eastward down Industrial Avenue, dodging road closure signs and doing a slalom through the orange cones? Maybe only the Shadow Nose.
