Sign of the times. The refurbishing and repainting of the almost-historic Farnesi’s sign at Avenue 16 is nearly complete and it is looking like it will last another fifty years. Kudos to Restaurateur Don Cederlof for returning the marquee to its deserved prominence as the thousands of southbound motorists enter the city limits daily on State Route 99.

Birthday bonanza. The best of birthday wishes to Bob and Dora Loquaci. Together for over 60 years and both celebrating birthdays early this month (I am probably already too late for one). We used to see each other at coffee on Saturday mornings, and each of them always had kind words for this scribe, no matter what my column the day before entailed. Bob was also friends with this scribe’s father during his crop dusting days and that was quite a long time ago so Happy Birthday to a great couple.

On my final trip to the desert this spring before it turned a little hot (125 degrees Saturday) I espied not only the usual coyote or two, but also a roadrunner. This old desert rat always is reminded of the classic Warner Brothers cartoons featuring those two when sighting either the four-legged or the two-legged one. However, after some extensive research, I have learned that despite the constant failure of the coyote catching the bird going “beep, beep” a coyote can run over 40 mph while that smart aleck little bird can only achieve 20 mph. Gadzooks, could it be my entire childhood was a lie?

He was quite the gentleman and was proud of an entire room in his home that was dedicated to memorabilia of and about the San Francisco 49er team and players...
