How are all my favorite cooks faring so far this summer? I am finding it a challenge to prepare dinners without using my oven. I do have a toaster/convection oven, but the top heating element quit working, so now it’s even harder to be creative.
Hot weather or not, however, those who are interesting in entering some of their baked goods in this year’s Madera District Fair (Sept. 5 to 8) simply must endure turning on their ovens. For example, there will be a Junior Chocolate Chip Cookie contest (sponsored by Save Mart Supermarket, Howard Road) and a Death by Chocolate contest (sponsored by Matt and Lori Angell).
The cookie contest is open to any youth attending school 18 years of age and younger. And the Death by Chocolate contest doesn’t necessarily have to involve turning on your oven. An entry can be candy, if you can keep it from melting!
Check out the Exhibitor Handbook at www.maderafair.com/fair/handbook.html. Entry deadline is Aug. 13, 6 p.m. Have some fun with it...
