San Francisco Giants’ talented and mercurial closer Brian Wilson appears to have blown out his elbow. He has already gone through Tommy John surgery while playing for LSU, but another may be on the horizon.

Either way, it looks like he is out for the season.

Wilson himself admitted that his arm was on “borrowed time” after the Giants’ World Series run in 2010. He had 46 saves that season and six more in the playoffs. His drop-off in 2011 hinted that there might be issues, and then his refusal in spring training to admit that his elbow was screaming like a banshee led to his being shut down.

No more fear the beard. Now it’s fear the board, as in scoreboard...
