Wieber cheated by Olympic spirit

American gymnast Jordyn Wieber was done in by two teammates, but more by a misguided system that is allegedly supposed to demonstrate the Olympic spirit. In this case it’s a mean spirit.

The 17-year-old is the defending world champion in the individual all-around. She is the anchor of a very strong U.S. squad and the overwhelming favorite to run away with Olympic gold.

Yet despite not having her best performance — she was edged by American teammates Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman — it’s not like she stunk up the place. She finished fourth in the all-around, behind third place teammate Raisman by twotenths of a point.

While not up to her standards, her performance still makes her the fourth best gymnast on the planet. Great news you would think. She can redeem herself in the finals, right? No...
