It’s in your court. Word from the state, and you can always trust them (?), is that construction on the new courthouse at the site of the former VFW Lodge on 6th Street will begin next month. The Elks Lodge across the street cooks up terrific Saturday lunches and just a suggestion, but maybe the Elks could make a little extra for their terrific projects and programs by serving lunch during the week to the construction crews.

You can bet on it. Well, maybe we should first check the odds in Las Vegas, but yea or nay on the long-planned casino north of town is now in the hands of the governor. According to our Sacramento lobbyist Harry Hindsight, Gov. Brown should make up his mind in a few weeks. I say hurry up so we can stop all this local bickering. Either do or don’t, but this scribe is not hedging his bet.

Welcome home to Madera Golf and Country Club President John Row and his pretty gal, Sharon. The couple just returned from stampeding up to Calgary for the Stampede and visiting Sharon’s folks. That’s in Canada, and a long drive.

According to reliable sources the two had never spent that much time together in one vehicle on the road. They managed not to drive into Crater Lake, go over Idaho Falls nor detour at Whiskeytown or Weed and made it back still smiling. But of course, it could be because John’s a dentist...
