Received my sample ballot recently, and this scribe had heard something about the election being a joke and indeed, the ballot did note comedienne Rosanne Barr was running for president on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. Now, if I had to live with Rosanne as president, or under the same roof, I hardly think there would be any peace, let alone any freedom.

Congrats to my longtime pal, Tony Frede, retiring today as head honcho of the building maintenance division of the city’s Public Works Department. He and his crews were always there (at least for yours truly) when it came to fixing something and more than just buildings.

Tony and I go way back. To painting his classic cars when I owned a body shop to both of us having over a 200 average in bowling. We competed against each other many times. But when it came to California State Bowling Tournaments we bowled as teammates in the 1970s and ‘80s. I don’t know about Tony, but the next time I try to knock down some pins it will probably be the senior league at Valley Bowl.

Wet and wild. Tomorrow is Heritage Day. Don’t know quite why but we celebrate it by spraying water from antique fire engines all over the Howard Road parking lot at Lions Town & Country Park. I must admit, it’s a great time for kids, adults and families. I’ll be out there trying to keep my notebook and camera dry. The fun and games begin at 10...
