Today is Feb. 22, 2013. That’s 2-22-13. Let’s see, 1 and 3 equals 4 and the two 2s in 22 equal 4. Don’t know about the extra 2 and I also can’t believe someone hasn’t emailed me about how “this won’t happen again for a thousand years.” Come on folks, you’re slipping.

Sitting at my usual booth in Black Bear Diner early Wednesday morning I was approached by the ever-ebullient waitress Yulianna. With a surprisingly curious, yet somewhat worried face, Yuli told me of a mysterious fellow who had been sitting in his pickup outside the restaurant for what she thought was far too long. I turned to check out the reason for her anxiety, only to reassure her there was no reason to fear.

Seems our Sheriff John Anderson was waiting to rendezvous with someone. And, as he told me once the twosome entered the restaurant, the early meeting was “for business purposes only.” Needless to say, Yuli breathed a sigh of relief and continued on her merry way, serving customers.

I never have to worry about this happening to me thanks to my editor and his budget, but a reporter was recently kicked off a United Airlines flight for taking a photo of the back of the seat in front of him...
