Can you believe I am not a football fan, but I am helping to plan a Super Bowl get-together? My mom loves the 49ers, and I love food, so we are going to host a small gathering over in Gilroy (my hometown) on the big day, Sunday.

If you are planning something, too, you might be interested in serving a variety of dips to go with raw vegetables, pita chips, pretzels (I love those flat pretzel chips), tortilla and potato chips, grilled or boiled shrimp, chicken wings, potato wedges or anything you think would be suitable with a dip. I will include a dip I have made for many years that has always been extremely popular, that is baked in a round bread bowl. It will be one of the recipes going into a cookbook I am working on.

The football action promises to be exciting, but even if you are like me, and may not understand half of what’s going on, you will surely enjoy some good food with some good friends. May your favorite team win!
