Even though I know many people are on strict diets and cannot or should not have candy, confections make great gifts this time of year.

Also, there are still a lot of folks who love and eat candy in varying amounts, whether every day or just on special occasions. So I thought it would be fun to share some great recipes for homemade candy that you can either eat and share with your own family, or give as tasty holiday gifts.

One of my favorites is toffee, at least the crunchy kind. I think in some countries, such as England, traditional toffee is more like a chewy candy rather than a crunchy one. And I prefer to coat it with milk chocolate instead of dark, but each to his or her own preferences.

If you feel like whipping up a batch or two of homemade candy this Christmas season, you may want to give some or all of these recipes a try. Happy cooking...
