The year is half over. There is only one summer holiday left and then it will be fall my favorite time of the year. These triple digit days are miserable. In addition, the summer weather came far too early this year.

Make sure to keep hydrated this time of year. Severe dehydration is one of the most painful ailments I have ever experienced and I once slid my motorcycle down the Avenue 12 onramp made slick with tomato juice during harvest.

I was riding about 50 miles an hour and the bike went one way while I went the other. Luckily, I had on heavy jeans and Earth Shoes. Does anyone remember those? Clunky leather lace-ups with a negative heel. They were the anti-high-heel pumps, very 1970’s.

The top half of my body didn’t fare quite as well. I wore a light cotton blouse without sleeves similar to a tank top. The shoulder I landed on tore the strap off the shirt. I also wasn’t wearing a helmet. California didn’t have a mandatory helmet law then...
