Super Bowl Sunday draws nigh

The 2012-2013 NFL season is almost over. This weekend’s playoff games will be followed up by a week off and then Super Bowl Sunday.

When Gib Virgo and Mike Crafton owned the bar called Some Place Else, I enjoyed their Super Bowl parties. One year the Buffalo Bills made it to the big game. I took a 6-foot plush Buffalo as my date to the party. We call him Billy Bison. He was the hit of the afternoon.

This year San Francisco fans are hoping to follow their World Series baseball victory with a win by the 49ers. Only two games separate the City by the Bay, from two national sports titles.

I know in this area there are a lot of 49er fans. Our sports editor, Tyler Takeda, is a major Niners fan. He’s easy to buy gifts for because anything with a 49er logo on it delights him. One year at Christmas I gave him a commemorative Pepsi bottle from one of the championship years. That combined two of his favorite items, Pepsi and the 49ers...
