This humble scribe is still receiving correspondence on my story on F Street (Gateway Drive) and my bike ride way back when. A wonderful, and lengthy, handwritten letter from Carol L. Jones told of her own bike ride down that thoroughfare.

She mentioned an outdoor skating rink next to Skeekos, Jerry and Bob King’s Shell Station, butcher Joe Paganini, day-old bread, the Greyhound bus station, and Courthouse Park when it had a small zoo, including an alligator. What a gal, and thanks, Carol, for even more memories of old Madera.

Another terrific lady who took the time to email yours truly was my former Madera High School biology teacher, Mrs. Norma Mastin. She is still traveling (meandering?) about and enjoying life. And I’m not afraid to say every time I see her about town I enjoy her lovely smile and wonderful demeanor just as much.

Okay, it’s the guys’ turn. I’m sure my classmate Steve Chambers (remember Chambers’ Florists?) recalls Mrs. Mastin. However, with the ride, my verbiage juggled a few of his own memories out of the cobwebs (sorry Steve)...
