This past Tuesday, Madera South’s Winter Sports Rally brought many students together to celebrate movies and honor our winter athletes. Thanks to our local Madera movie theater we had our gym covered in more than 40 movie posters and our athletes geared up.

We had a soccer v. basketball dance off and who knew our athletes could bust a move so well. Soccer won a trophy and will earn a pizza party. As seniors entered, they were put in a drawing to receive free movie tickets, movie posters and even Winter Formal tickets.

The rally opened up with a skit featuring various movies including “The Hunger Games,” “Ted,” “Pitch Perfect,” but the favorite was wrestling’s quick recap of “Magic Mike” and their dance to “It’s Raining Men.”

A big point of the rally was to crown this year’s ICE King and Queen, which is similar to Homecoming king and queen but with teachers. Chris Ross and Kelly Valmonte were crowned ICE king and queen. Each pair of candidates had filmed a famous movie scene, but due to technology difficulties it did not play at the rally. The clips will be given to various teachers to see our impressive teachers’ acting skills...
