First off: Congrats to Doug Nelson, county counsel for a long tenure. He will celebrate his retirement tomorrow with a big to-do at the VFW hall. Doug has also been active in the Elks and the Thanksgiving and Christmas basket projects that provide holiday meals for needy families in our community.

The approval rating of our representatives in Washington, be it in the Senate or the House, is now at its lowest in the history of Gallup polls, nine percent. That’s in almost 40 years of surveying our elected officials. They now rank just below root canals, traffic jams and cockroaches. Hmm, cockroaches? Seems fitting.

Getting gassed. The United States will soon be number one again in oil production, out-producing Saudi Arabia and any country in the Middle East. So, with the need for importing oil down and stateside fuel production more than ever before, why are gas prices still high? Too many vehicles? Greedy oil companies?

If someone mentions the oil companies should be more regulated they better not be the same person who thinks the country is on the verge of socialism, or communism due to too much regulation...
