Though we are not able to go yet despite being fans of James Bond movies from the first “Dr. No” to the just released “Skyfall,” we are hoping the current flick will run long enough for my gal to get enough gumption (grandma’s term) and energy to head to a theater and watch it on the big screen. Also of interest is “Lincoln.”

That flick, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Daniel Day-Lewis, actually grossed more per theater than Bond. Of course “Lincoln” could only be seen in 11 theaters across the country. But I have to wonder if one of the movie venues was Ford’s Theater. However, it will be at theaters more widespread than the casualties at Antietam and Gettysburg beginning tomorrow.

It is still nice enough weather (until probably today) for a round of golf at Muni or at the Country Club, where my pal Lowell Stone is course guru. My last round on the links occurred at the Fresno West course. It was a foursome of Tom Schoettler, Faye Hickman, Bob Canarelli and this youngster.

Tom was a wonderful tutor and said I had a natural swing. Maybe he meant “swinger” because that was not one of my better rounds. Sadly, for some regulars out there on alkali flats, Fresno West recently saw its final round, so I think I’ll tear up my scorecard from that day...
