Popped into the City Council meeting Wednesday night. It was literally standing room only. As I was watching the proceedings it dawned (think Edison light bulb) on this lifelong Maderan that the current City Council, with Mayor Brett (not enough pizza) Frazier, Rob (pencil thin) Poythress, Andy (almost mini) Medellin, Gary (ever skinnier) Svanda and the always lovely Sally Bomprezzi, this is the thinnest group on the dais in decades. Almost as thin as the state budget they have to work with.

March madness. It will be on the last day of this month. Happened to see old pal Donald Holley at the aforementioned meeting. Donald informed me that March 31 will be the 25th kickoff of the Jesse Owens Games for kids. This year’s event will be a special tribute to the late City Councilman Sam Armentrout. Also, that same morning the annual (I’ll say it) “Easter” egg hunt for the little ones will be held at Lions Town & Country Park. And finally, a special achievement (more on this later) will be celebrated at the Elks Lodge that afternoon. Whew, what a great way to end the month.

Okay, moms, dads, grandpas and grandmas. I usually don’t do this, but I don’t want you to miss out. Actually, I don’t want your kids and/or grandkids to miss out. The parks department runs a wonderful program that helps kids be kids and not have to worry about winning, or whining. Not them, the aforementioned grown-ups. Tomorrow is the last (official) day to register your 4- to 8-year-old at the Youth Center for the T-Ball games starting in late April. Don’t leave them out. They’ll make a lot of new friends and maybe you will, too.

It can’t be just me. And evidently it isn’t. Some readers espied my gal at The Vineyard Restaurant, one of our favorite hangouts, sans her hubby, and getting hugs from Steve Sagouspe and Bobby Kahn. Now, I know Steve and I have to get together soon, but it’s not for hugs. And as for my longtime pal Bobby, why is it he gives more hugs to my gal than this scribe? Maybe only the Shadow knows...
