Sendoff and sadness

Now that the night sky has returned to its normal blackboard sprinkled with crystals color, we can really get into summer around here with barbeques every weekend, heck, every night. But first can we get rid of the fireworks booths?

There are still quite a few standing and are now considered eyesores. Although I must say a terrific teardown was accomplished by the volunteers of the Camp Fire USA fireworks booth. Less than twelve hours after the volunteers sold their final box of sparklers, the booth on Howard Road near Round Table Pizza had completely disappeared.

Nice sendoff. That would be the one held for fighter pilot Jeff Brandon last Saturday at the home of his dad John and John’s gal, Camille. There were Maderans of all ages swimming, partying and testing their voices with a karaoke machine. Jeff will be leaving this week for his new base just outside Misawa, Japan and everyone wishes the Madera High and Fresno State graduate the best.

Those hardworking Elks Lodge members have been doing just that, and if the lodge is not open by the time you are reading this it will be soon. After the ceiling collapsed and the insurance company inspected the damage they went right to work, tearing, stripping, hauling, remodeling and more to get the place in shape in time for the next rental, or the next bingo night and more...
