It is with great sorrow and alarm that I read the headline in Friday’s Trib over the story of how the Madera City Council is laying the foundation to dissolve the Madera Redevelopment Agency. No matter what Gov. Jerry Brown and the State of California dictate, this move is a huge mistake.
In a time when many of the government agencies seem to dither away the tax dollars allocated to them, the RDA has many great projects they can point to justifying its existence.
Under executive director Jim Taubert’s helmsmanship, Madera’s RDA has fostered the city’s code enforcement branch and made it its mission to stamp out urban blight.
Thousands of gallons of paint and tons of trash have been dispatched, helping to clean up Madera. Weekend crews of volunteers have cleaned up alleys, removed trash from the Fresno Riverbed and planted trees and flowers in the medians all over town...
