Can this possibly be the last edition of 2011? It must be since Monday is the first day of 2012. According to the Mayan calendar, the world will cease to exist on Dec.21. For years the doom-criers have been predicting the end of the world based on the calendar left behind by this ancient civilization.

Various sources on the Internet will tell you this is a misinterpretation of the calendar and a hoax designed to cash in on the concept. I don’t claim to be an expert on the subject but it feels like the same apocalyptic predictions that surrounded Y2K and the new millennium. Maybe the artist who designed the calendar ran out of clay and figured what the heck.

This has been an interesting year. I didn’t get to spend much of it working due to medical issues. I am hoping 2012 will be a better year.

On Monday I am looking forward to taking photos of the first baby born at Madera Community Hospital for the New Year. As always I have one prayer, which is please let the baby be born to married adults. I’m told every new baby is reason to rejoice. Too few people are interested in my views on population control so let’s just leave this discussion right here...
