Rodent calls for more winter

The famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow on Thursday. Tradition dictates this is a forecast for six more weeks of winter. The chatter on the Internet asks how we can have six more weeks of winter? We haven’t had any winter to speak of this year. The proponents of the global warming theory point to a lack of rain and snow as proof that the hole in the ozone is a precursor for a planetary meltdown.

Only time will tell how accurate the rodent is. The good news is the forecast calls for a 70 percent chance of rain on Tuesday.

According to our sister publication the “Chicago Tribune,” Phil is always right because he never says where the six more weeks of winter will be. For him it’s not a gamble.

And speaking of gambling, an anti-casino group sent out a mailer this week that might prove effective. The high gloss, full color mailer included a post card addressed to the governor urging him to put a stop to the proposed casino on Avenue 17. The return postage is included to make it free to oppose the casino...
