Recently I ran into B.J. “Jake” Robinson in the produce department at the grocery store. This former MUSD trustee’s late son, Cortez Robinson, was a year ahead of me in school.

Cortez and my brother Brian Hill played football together for Fresno City College in the 1973-74 season. I still have a newspaper clipping from The Madera Tribune that shows all the Madera “boys” on that year’s squad. There were 10 former Coyotes, eight players and two coaches from Madera on the team. They won the junior college state championship at the Bakersfield Potato Bowl.

Jake told me over the tomatoes how much he enjoys reading my column even when he doesn’t agree with me. He told me I needed to write an article on the dangers of distracted drivers.
