A few days ago, Ronn Dominici, long-time CHP officer and retired Madera County Supervisor from District 3, dropped by to chat about the good old days, especially those halcyon days at Madera High in the 1960s.

It didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to sports in our town 50 years ago, and two games in the 1962-63 school year took center stage. One was a football game, and the other was a basketball game.

The telling of both contests became so animated that Dominici had to go home for his high school yearbooks so that I could get the full picture.

I was captivated by my friend’s excitement and the stories he was telling-so much so that I want to share them with our readers, some of whom will already know them because they were there...
