Wee! The people. After seeing NASCAR drivers and the dozens of sponsor logos all over their uniforms I am suggesting we start a petition to have senators and representatives wear the same uniforms so we can identify their corporate sponsors. Either that, or we start getting 70 to 80 percent turnout for elections and show them who is really in charge of running this country.

Democracy — Rule by the people? We should try it again, and soon.

With Town and Country Park being used for all sorts of family fun, ball games, summer kids camps and picnics this time of year, somehow this scribe and the paper missed out on a presentation by the Madera Breakfast Lions.

Every year for almost 40 years the Morning Lions have worked a concession booth at Town and Country Park during Bobby Sox season, and more recently the Saturday T-ball games, with the proceeds going to park maintenance and improvements. A couple of weeks ago at a city council meeting the hardworking club presented a check for $6,000 for this year’s efforts. Way to go...
