Purple eggs, planes and cars

Egg on my face. This meager scribe does a pretty good job of that between the times I put my size 10s in my mouth. However, in this case it is 12,000 candy- and prize-filled eggs that will be gathered up by hundreds of kids tomorrow at the Parks Department’s annual Eggstravaganza at Lions Town and Country Park.

And please folks, remember it is for the kids and for the ones who realize what fun they are having. That would be those young’uns ages 3-10, and doesn’t mean parents loading up their strollers. From what I surmise from sources there could even be undercover law enforcement on the premises so don’t get handcuffed in front of all those kids for egg theft.

Varoom, to the day before. Yes, they are back. That would be the wonderful folks of Madera Classic Cars. They will hold their first show of the season tonight at Walgreens on Cleveland Avenue near the fairgrounds. The fun, food, friendships and music by the Yard Dogs will begin at 6 p.m. Come on out and enjoy it all, and oh yea, check out some great cars and trucks from, some say, better times.

Back to Saturday. When I was a kid and working (very little) at the airport and my dad’s crop dusting business I sat down one day with pop after seeing a photo of him leaning out of the pilot’s (commander’s) window of his last B-29 bomber, the Spirit of FDR. At the time it was the largest plane in America’s arsenal...
