Going to the dogs. But this is a good thing. There will be a first meeting (ever) of a group of folks who call themselves Friends of the Dog Park tomorrow at Round Table Pizza at 5:15 p.m. The confab for canines is open to anyone interested in improving the Dog Park at Rotary Park on Gateway. Come on out (actually “in”) and join your fellow dog lovers to help come up with some great ideas for Fido and his friends at their park playground.

I tell you, these desert tours are costing me points in the social circles of the town. So far I’ve been hanging with coyotes and wild burros while missing the Senior Farmer of the Year dinner and the Madera Arts Council’s big shindig (remember that TV show?) last Saturday. Well, congrats to both. You make my town, our town, a better place to live, work and play.

By mid-morning Monday, the town had suddenly become purple-ized. According to Relay For Life chair Charlotte Brewer a record number of volunteers, including more than 50 youth from our high schools, and a large contingent from New Harvest Church, wrapped purple ribbons around trees and vertical things to honor cancer survivors. Great job to all who helped and remember the terrific Relay For Life is scheduled for May 4-5 at Lions Town and Country Park.
