With all the news concerning NFL players being arrested on any number of charges, a list as long as your arm, or the long arm of the law, this scribe began to wonder. Are the once feared Oakland Raiders the only team that doesn’t have a player, former coach, assistant or staff in jail, or out on bail awaiting trial? If so, is that a first? Does it mean the mean ol’ Raiders might have a winning season? Check back around Thanksgiving.

Which brings us to golf, a more honorable sport. Let me know if you can name a pro-golfer currently in jail, or prison? Golfers are paid in direct proportion to how well they play. They don’t hold out for bigger contracts because another player got such a deal.

The PGA raises more money for charity in one year than the NFL does in two. And I’m sure my golf course expert Lowell Stone will agree, with the British Open next week, most importantly there are 18 holes on a golf course because the Scots designing old St. Andrews discovered there are exactly 18 shots in a fifth of Scotch whiskey.

Was the pretty blonde wife of a schoolteacher and great cook of Mexican food seen Wednesday at a foothill casino celebrating her birthday with her hubby?
