This week we are continuing our Madera District Fair theme and I am happy to announce a special new contest. It’s called “P is for Pomegranate” and is sponsored by the Madera Chamber of Commerce Tourism Alliance.

To quote straight from the fair’s Exhibitor’s Handbook, “Madera is home to many pomegranate growers and processors, and is right in the center of the international pomegranate trade. In 2011, Madera County officially became the ‘Heart of Pomegranate Country.’

“Furthermore, pomegranates are bursting with antioxidants, vitamin C and potassium! Bring in your favorite recipe using pomegranates, anything from appetizers to desserts. You may use arils, the juice or both in your recipe. It’s time to strut this juicy little gem on the red carpet!” (Arils are the small, beadlike, juicy red seed coatings.)

Enter one whole cake or loaf, one dozen pieces, one pint or a dish to serve six. For more rules, visit www.maderafair .com/fair/handbook.html and click on Exhibit Hall section, then scroll down to special contests...
