Once again, it’s time for the Madera District Fair. This year’s theme is “Party Down in Lumber Town.” Brand new just inside the front gates is a display recreating the Sugar Pine Lumber Company, complete with a paddle wheel and saw. Photos from the past depicting the timber industry that helped to found Madera are on display along with buggies and other memorabilia from that era.

Madera has a nice little fair with top-notch entertainment. The main reason people come to our fair is to see their friends. Beverages at the Lions, Rotary, 20-30 and Pan Am clubs are where you hang out to meet up with pals.

The Midway of Fun has rides for little kids and thrill rides for big kids. Artwork and home crafts join prize fruits and vegetables grown by amateur gardeners. The livestock pens give 4-H and FFA members the chance to show and sell their project animals. Today at 12:30 p.m. is the junior livestock auction, and buyers are always welcome.

And who doesn’t love fair food? Chinese combo plates, deep-pit tri-tip, soft tacos, barbecue, kettle corn and corn dogs ... so many corn dogs...
