Paying homage. Even on a warm, and getting warmer by the minute, day it was nice to see so many Maderans turn out for the Memorial Day services at Arbor Vitae Cemetery and Courthouse Park.

We are losing what is left of America’s Greatest Generation by a thousand each day and we, members of generations since then, cannot pay enough tribute to those men and women or to the valiant warriors defending our freedom today.

And just in time for that holiday. There has been a very tall pole at the corner of Schnoor and Sunset next to what I believe is (was?) a scout building. I always imagined it a flagpole, but can’t remember old glory ever flying on its tall mast.

That changed this past weekend when I noticed a large lift (cherry picker) setting in the parking lot next to the building. A gust of wind unfurled a large American flag in all its splendor, inspiration and glory at the top of the flagpole. Whoever is responsible, a big thanks. It looks awesome...
