The ’13 Madera District Fair has now passed into the history books. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the fair and hope many of you accepted the invitation to attend. It exceeded my expectations; the 20-30 Club tri-tip and fair cinnamon rolls were as good as I remembered them. I had a great time at our fair.

On Friday my high school best friend, Robin Beban, and her daughter Samantha Riley attended. We saw all the exotic animals, the 1,000-pound pig and enjoyed the art projects in the Women’s World building.

We have gone to many fairs in the last 40 years. One year at the Big Fresno Fair, I promised her Ricky Nelson would sing “Happy Birthday, Robin.” (He did!) As my bartender, Gib Virgo liked to say, “It ain’t bragging if you can do it!” This year we celebrated her birthday two days early.

I got to meet and talk with many of our readers at The Madera Tribune booth in Hatfield Hall. We gave away a bunch of free month’s newspaper delivery and sold discount subscriptions...
